BDTC Endorsements

The Barnstable Democratic Town Committee is pleased to announce its endorsements for the September 1 Democratic Primary Election.

The Barnstable Democratic Town Committee does not routinely endorse candidates in contested Democratic primaries. We believe Democratic voters deserve the opportunity to hear from candidates and make their own informed decisions.

This year, however, we concluded that several of the races are of such importance - and the contrasts between the candidates are significant enough - that we have a responsibility to share our judgment with Democratic voters.

In a small number of races, we believe questions of leadership, character, judgment, and commitment to Democratic values make it important for the Committee to speak clearly. Public service is about more than policy positions; it requires integrity, respect for others, and a willingness to work constructively to solve problems. We believe Democratic voters deserve leaders who embody those qualities.

Cape & Islands District Attorney:

The Barnstable Democratic Town Committee proudly endorses District Attorney Rob Galibois for re-election.

Since taking office, District Attorney Galibois has demonstrated thoughtful, effective, and compassionate leadership. He has modernized the District Attorney’s Office, strengthened its operations, and introduced innovative programs that better serve victims, families, and communities across the Cape and Islands.

His commitment to justice, public safety, and community partnership reflects the values Democrats expect from their public officials. We are confident that a second term will allow him to continue building on the progress he has already achieved.

Barnstable County Commissioner:

Three candidates are seeking election to the Barnstable County Board of Regional Commissioners: incumbent Ron Bergstrom of Chatham, Dan Gessen of Falmouth, a member of the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates, and Eric Schwaab of Barnstable.

In this race, the Barnstable Democratic Town Committee has taken the unusual step of endorsing two candidates: Ron Bergstrom and Dan Gessen.

Our endorsement reflects our belief that public office requires character, civility, honesty, sound judgment, and the ability to bring people together. Effective regional government depends on leaders who build consensus rather than division, respect facts over rhetoric, and work with others to achieve results.

Both Ron Bergstrom and Dan Gessen have demonstrated records of public service, thoughtful leadership, and a deep commitment to the people of Cape Cod. They understand that the region’s most pressing challenges - from housing and infrastructure to environmental protection and economic opportunity - require collaboration, practical solutions, and respect for differing viewpoints.

They have consistently shown a willingness to work constructively with colleagues, local communities, and regional partners to move Cape Cod forward. We believe they possess the experience, temperament, and commitment to public service that the office demands.

The Barnstable Democratic Town Committee is proud to endorse Rob Galibois, Ron Bergstrom, and Dan Gessen in the September 1 Democratic Primary and encourages Democratic voters to learn about the candidates, cast their ballots, and participate in this important election.
